Classification Structure of American Standard Valves
American standard valve products come in a wide range of types, including gate valves, globe valves, check valves, ball valves, butterfly valves, and plug valves. [1][5] Based on the connection method, they can be classified as flanged, butt-welded, threaded, wafer-type, or lug-type. One of the key technical parameters of American standard valves is the pressure rating, which is commonly indicated using the Class (pound rating) system.
This system is based on a comprehensive consideration of material, temperature, and pressure, and is defined by standards such as ASME B16.34. For example, Class 150 is based on a temperature of 260°C, while Class 600 and higher classes are typically based on a temperature of 454°C. There is a conversion relationship between the Class rating and the nominal pressure.

For instance, Class 600 corresponds to approximately 10 MPa in the European standard (ISO 7005-1:2011) and 11 MPa in the American standard (ASME B16.5). Different industries have different preferences for pressure rating systems. For example, the shipbuilding industry commonly uses the European standard system, while the LNG ultra-low temperature sector usually adopts the American standard Class system.
