The function of the foot valve
Preventing the backflow of the medium is the most important function of a foot valve. Without a foot valve, water or other media (such as oil, gas, etc.) in the pipeline may flow back once the flow stops. For example, in a water-pumping pipeline system, if there is no foot valve, when the pump stops working, the water in the pipeline will flow back towards the source. This means that every time water is to be pumped again, the air in the pipeline must be removed and the pipeline refilled with water, which is a waste of time and effort. With a foot valve, it acts like a one-way gate, allowing the medium to flow in only one direction. When the flow stops or the pressure decreases, the valve disc automatically closes to prevent backflow, ensuring that there is always enough medium in the pipeline system for it to function properly at any time. The foot valve also prevents debris from entering the pipeline. Imagine if small stones, branches, plastic bags, or other debris got into the pipeline; that would be a lot of trouble. These debris could get stuck inside the pipeline, obstructing the flow of the medium and even damaging the pipeline or other equipment. The valve disc of the foot valve functions like a filter screen. When the medium flows from the source towards the pipeline, the valve disc opens, allowing the medium to pass through smoothly. However, larger debris will be blocked outside the valve disc and cannot enter the pipeline, thus protecting the safety and stable operation of the entire pipeline system.
