The function of the check valve in the range hood
A check valve is a device installed in household exhaust ducts, primarily consisting of components such as the valve body, rocker, and valve cover. Its primary function is to remain closed when the range hood is not in use, preventing external smoke and odors from entering the interior; when the range hood is operating, the valve cover opens to allow the exhaust fumes to be discharged, thus ensuring one-way ventilation. The check valve installed at the junction between the range hood’s duct and the exhaust system is mainly designed to prevent backflow of fumes. To some extent, it can prevent smoke and the odors of food from spreading through the shared exhaust duct, but due to the imperfect sealing of traditional check valves, their effectiveness is not entirely ideal. Check valves should be installed on the range hood itself, rather than at the entrance of the exhaust duct, as this makes it easier to remove, maintain, and clean them, and also prevents debris from entering the duct and affecting the proper operation of the check valve.
